NumberWays Family is the only parent-taught early math program that uses stories and games.  It is one of the few math programs that teaches children as young as 3 years old.  It is based on learning Number Naming, Number Writing, Number Sequence, and Number Equating—the four main components of number knowledge. It focuses on the early counting numbers 1-9. It provides a parent math educator who teaches parents how to teach their children. It provides a structured program of instruction (20 minutes of story and game play 3 times a week), personalized feedback based on video analysis, and assessment on standardized measures.

2. How was NumberWays Family developed?

NumberWays Family was developed out of a ten-year program of early math study at Florida International University that demonstrated that game based early math instruction was successful in improving children’s math readiness scores.

3. What does NumberWays look like?

NumberWays Family uses a set of 9 number dolls that correspond to the early counting numbers.  These dolls make up the “number family.”  Children learn to construct an initial number line based on games and stories.

4. How does NumberWays Family work?

A parent is assigned a coach, instructions, videos, books and materials to complete the NumberWays Family Curriculum.  After a short number knowledge assessment, the parents play/teach their child for 15-20 minutes three times a week.  Lessons are organized one per session with all instructions, books, and game materials.  Videos are analyzed by the coach to give targeted feedback to the parent.
